1   Cost savings with the latest control techology in Ladbergen
The WWTP of Ladbergen (Germany) is one of the top-performing plants of the region, although the inlet conditions are extremely difficult with a COD up to 3.000 mg/l. With significant rebuildings, process instruments by HACH LANGE and the modern control system Opti- Nox by KLEINE (engineering office in Germany) they achieved this position. In future they are going to save energy and further reduce wastewater fees. Author: Uwe Karg, Application process measurement technology HACH LANGE. 4 pages

2   Aeration control technology with SC 1000
Author: Uwe Karg, Application process measurement technology, HACH LANGE. The WWTP in Harsefeld (northern part of Germany, 23.000 PE) runs with an aeration control system based completely on three relay contacts of a SC 1000. Additionally an AMTAX sc and a LDO are installed to provide the measurement values needed for the 2-point control function regulating ammonium and oxygen. The result: 20 % less operating hours of the aeration and Ntot < 5 mg/l. The plant manager is very satisfied with this small and well performing unit and he will keep this system even after the installation of a PLC or a complex control system for the plant. 4 pages

3   Telemetry for the highest level of plant reliability
Author: Uwe Karg, Diplom-Ingenieur, chemistry, Application process measurement technology, HACH LANGE. Reliability is a main goal for control processes which have to reduce operating costs or ensure compliance with limit values. WWTP in Radolfzell (40.000 PE) at the Bodensee (Lake Constance) fullfil both requirements. Process measuring instruments supply the control system continuously with readings and signal their operational readiness by means of telemetry. Non-compliance with the limit values has been reduced significantly and the savings in added carbon amount to up to € 8,000 each year. 4 pages

4   Water Quality Monitoring 40 Metres Below the Sea bed
Natural groundwater collected around the tunnels operated by Eurotunnel is continuously monitored before being pumped to the coast and discharged into the sea. Six multiparameter water quality monitoring systems have been custom-designed by HACH LANGE to ensure that there is no potential for harmful water to enter the pipelines. Each monitoring system is connected to a sophisticated data collection and alarm system that is able to divert water into vast underground sumps if alarm conditions occur. To-date, no such emergency has taken place. Commenting on the new monitoring system is the Eurotunnel Senior Technician / Project Manager Michael Edwards and the Eurotunnel maintainance staff. 4 pages

5   LDO, Measuring oxygen levels in trout farms
An adequate level of oxygen must be maintained in the water of fish farms. If the level is too low, fish production suffers. Kirsten and Alexander Tautenhahn have run a trout farm in Germany, since 1991. Oxygen levels at the farm have been monitored by HACH LANGE LDO sensors since July 2005. The accuracy of the measurements, also at high concentrations, ensures optimal oxygen transfer even during the night with no flow around the sensors. The rugged sensor and extensive warranty assure reliable long-term operation.

6   LDO, 80 % less maintenance within paper industry
An average of 9.6 litres of wastewater is generated per kilogram of paper in Germany. Several paper mills use biological processes to treat their wastewater. In Neuss, Procter & Gamble (TEMPO paper handkerchiefs, etc.) has Europe’s biggest factory for paper-based hygiene products. Its biological wastewater treatment plant became operational in 1994. The aeration control system uses the LDO optical oxygen sensor, which is H2S resistent and enabled the monthly maintenance time to be reduced by 80 %. 4 pages

10   LDO process, Sewage Treatment Plant reports success with HACH LANGE LDO
Application report about a successful use of HACH LANGE LDO sensor in the aeration control in the Sewage Treatment Plant in Vienna (60 LDO process sensors in SC network). The precise measurement of the oxygen concentration enables very accurate aeration of the activeted sludge and leads to cost savings due to the lower energy consumption for the aeration. Experiences after 18 months of uninterrupted operation, advantages of using SC 1000 controllers. 4 pages
